Meet Leila O’Hara, the new Marketing Coordinator at Mac’s List!


Last week we welcomed a new addition to the Mac’s List team. Meet Leila O’Hara, our new marketing coordinator and to-do-list checker extraordinaire!

Leila’s hire is the end result of a long and detailed hiring process (now we really know how our employers feel), and we’re so happy to have her. Leila brings a breadth of experience in digital marketing to our team, and she’s already diving in to tons of projects and checking things off her to-do list. You’ll be seeing Leila at upcoming events, webinars, and around our website, so take a minute to get to know her a bit better. She answers a few questions and shares her favorite job search tip below.   

Tell us how you came to Oregon?

I grew up outside of Denver, Colorado and I lived in Phoenix, Arizona for 15 years before deciding to move to the PNW. I visited Portland over the past four years and fell in love with the tree-lined streets, mountain views, abundance of amazing restaurants and the vibrant, bustling city life.

What will you be doing at Mac’s List?

I will be working as the marketing coordinator at Mac’s List. I will be managing the Mac’s List social media communities, deploying the email newsletters, contributing to the Find Your Dream Job podcast, assisting with webinars and event management, plus developing and implementing additional digital strategies.

Why did you want to work for Mac’s List? What most excites you about the job?

Mac’s List felt like a perfect fit for the next step of my career where I can apply my digital marketing skills to helping a small business continue to find success. In addition to being a B Corp, Mac’s List is a small, cohesive team. Everyone who works at Mac’s List is dedicated, talented, and experienced. I am most excited to work in an environment where I can be inspired daily by the passion, creativity and innovation of my coworkers.

What was your first job and what did it teach you?

My first job was working as a digital marketing specialist at a marketing agency in Tempe, Arizona. My first job taught me to be adaptable, forward-looking and resourceful. It was a fast-paced environment where I had to learn dozens of new skills and juggle multiple projects with tight deadlines.

What’s the best career advice you ever received?

Your ideal, dream job is most likely not going to be delivered to you wrapped in a bow, perfectly customized for you. You have to work hard to find a job you like and then continue to work hard, hone your craft, surround yourself with mentors, and discover your passion projects to turn the job you like into a career that you love.

What’s your top job search tip?

My top job search tip is to keep an open mind and be persistent. The ideal position you are looking for might be hard to find or have a different job description that does not align perfectly with your expectations. But you may find that in the interview process or by getting to know more about the company, a position you would have ruled out in the early stages of your search might be the perfect fit for you.

What do you do outside of work?

Outside of the office, you can find me reading books at Powell’s, hiking and exploring Oregon, and trying new gelato flavors. I’m also always on the hunt for cute puppy photos and the perfect pun.
