Use games to help save the world! Participants in this Lab will choose a social justice area they would like to address. From there, you’ll team up around your social justice topics and develop a game to address at least one element. For example you might focus on raising awareness, changing behavior, or identifying strategies to solve regional issues. Through your game you’ll develop multiple different mechanics to address that element while learning about game thinking, methods, and concepts, psychology, motivation, fun and engagement.

When Does This Lab Take Place?

How to Use Games to Address Social Change is a 12 hour class that takes place Thursday nights in February and March. The exact dates are:
Thursday, February 2nd from 6:30-9:30pm
Thursday, February 16th from 6:30-9:30pm
Thursday, March 16th from 6:30-9:30pm
Thursday, March 30th from 6:30-9:30pm
Participants are expected to attend all four classes.

Meet Your Lab Leader: Bjarke Kronborg
Bjarke is a hope-seeker, a Dane, a numbers lover and an environmental justice activist with a conviction that the training of future generations is a key part of the solution. Bjarke moved to Portland in 2011 to pursue his MBA, as a supplement to his bachelor degree in industrial engineering. With this combination he has skills in the technical realm, the user-centered design realm, financial realm and the organizational strategy realm allowing him to function as a fluid team member with a flair for the technical and quantitative analytical space. Outside of work Bjarke spends most of his time with board games and outdoor activities like hiking, skiing and sailing. Although it is hard to find enough time for skiing and sailing within the traditional American labor market, hopefully we can use the WFA to make more of that happen.
