The College of Business is seeking a Assistant Director for Professional Development. This is a full-time 1.00 FTE, 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.
The College of Business Career Success Center (CSC) provides College of Business students with assistance in career planning, preparation for internship and job searches and connections to companies that are interested in hiring College of Business students. The Assistant Director works under the supervision of the Director of Student Engagement. The Assistant Director provides day-to-day management for the center and ensures programmatic and strategic goals for the College are met. The Assistant Director works to bring employers to the College to hire OSU students through a variety of innovative models, including Fridays in Austin.
In addition, the Assistant Director creates and manages on-campus relationships with the OSU Career Development Center, Varsity Athletics, and other colleges at OSU. The incumbent also provides students with assistance and coaching to prepare them for their internship and job search; connects students to career exploration, development, and engagement opportunities; and manages group delivery of career development classes. The Assistant Director provides a wide range of career information and career planning services to College of Business students.
This position may provide supervision to a career advisor and executive support specialist within the CSC.
40% Employer Relations
The Assistant Director supports college-level employer relations as the College resource for industry partners. The Assistant Director works closely with staff across the College of Business as well as with the OSU Career Development Center (CDC) to develop, nurture, and maintain strong internal and external relationships that are well-aligned with college strategic goals.
In this capacity, the Assistant Director works with local, regional and national employers to engage COB students for events including but not limited to:
- Welcome to the Majors
- Networking Nights
- Career Fair (in coordination with OSU CDC)
- Fridays in Austin (Travel Fridays, Panels, Meet Ups, and Personal, Professional Leadership Development programs)
- Experiential Learning Opportunities including Job Shadowing and Informational Interviews
30% Career Success Center Management
In collaboration with Director of Student Engagement lead and manage the CSC.
Implement and incorporate career-related software (Handshake, for example).
Manage Partnership with the CDC.
Leverage central resources through the CDC.
Engage with Corporate Engagement Task Force.
Collaborate with External Engagement.
Coordinate and manage budget.
Collaborate with Student Outreach and Engagement Coordinators (SOEC) to create program specific Fridays in Austin events and other activities.
10% Support Professional Development classes and the First-Year/Second-Year Experience within the College of Business, to include classroom presentations and professional development activities.
10% Analyze Metrics
Analyze job and internship placement data.
Analyze experiential learning and full-time placement data.
Supervise one career advisor and one executive support specialist.
Master’s degree in business, student affairs, counseling or a related field.
3+ years experience in a professional work-related position.
Experience advising or working with students.
Experience developing and engaging in strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience in recruiting and or human resources/personnel.
Experience in project management or event planning.
Enthusiasm and desire to help students succeed.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Excellent skills in the following areas: professional oral and written communication, organizational/project management, public speaking, and spreadsheet and database.
Strong work ethic and experience working independently in a professional business setting.
Experience working with a diverse population, including international students.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; relational databases.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per OSU STANDARD 576-056-0000 et seq. Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications including the Motor Vehicle Check Requirement.
WORKING CONDITIONS/WORK SCHEDULE
Generally 8am-5pm Monday through Friday but regular evening and weekend hours are expected to manage events.
This position will require driving a personally owned vehicle or university vehicle for purposes of Fridays in Austin (Travel Fridays).
Some events/work will take place within Weatherford Hall.
