Our model is proven to break the cycle of generational poverty for children who face the highest risks by providing professional mentors to over 1,000 youth across the country. We recently were awarded a $4 million White House Social Innovation Fund grant, as part of our efforts to raise a $25 million Expansion Fund. Over the next 4 years we will expand to at least three new cities and grow to serve over 1,600 youth. Thanks to our exceptional outcomes and relationships across the country, we have been named the Portland Business Journal’s 2015 #1 “Most Admired” Oregon nonprofit, and in 2014, we won the Social Impact Exchange National Business Plan competition in NYC, setting the stage for our scaling efforts.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting for Friends of the Children National Network and Friends of the Children – Bay area. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

-Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations.

-Invoice entry and processing, and performing weekly check runs.

-Prepare monthly invoices for chapters and affiliates.

-Review employee expense reports

-Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements for executives.

-Support the Director of Finance in budget and forecasting activities.

-Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

-Respond to inquiries from Director of Finance, President and other managers regarding financial results and special reporting requests.

-Work with Director of Finance to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.

-Support Director of Finance with special projects and workflow process improvements.

Required competencies, skills and abilities:

-Two to four years of financial accounting experience.

-Strong GAAP/internal controls knowledge.

-Experience in supporting multiple business entities simultaneously.

-Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

-Strong Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Pro

-Ability to work collaboratively with members of staff

-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably with an accounting concentration.

Preferred competencies, skills and abilities:

-Non-profit accounting experience

-Federal grant compliance experience

-Experience with Financial Edge and Salesforce
