Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI)
promotes excellence in research at the University of Oregon. Research,
both basic and applied, is fundamental to the mission of the University
and is essential to Oregon’s economic and civic vitality. The Office is
committed to enhancing these efforts by providing administrative and
financial support for sponsored programs, including identification of
funding opportunities, proposal submission, research compliance, and
contracts and grant administration.The Office supports
interdisciplinary research centers and essential core facilities and
emboldens innovation and economic development through strategic
partnering and technology transfer initiatives. The UO has a long
tradition of interdisciplinary research that continues through the
production of new knowledge and innovative solutions to society’s grand
challenges.The Office of the Vice President for Research &
Innovation supports research at the University of Oregon through four
service units. Collectively known as Research and Innovation Services
(RIS), they help UO faculty, staff, and students with all stages of the
research process: funding identification, proposal development and
submission, award management, compliance, intellectual property
management, commercialization, and more.
Position SummaryThe
purpose of the Office Specialist 2 position is to provide general
administrative support and front desk reception as part of the Research
and Innovation Administrative Support Team. This position will also
provide accounting and transactional support to the units within the
Research and Innovation Services (RIS) team. This position will also
provide calendaring and scheduling support to the Director and Assistant
Directors of the RIS units.This position will work for one or
more of the RIS units and may be rotated to work in different units
based on operational requirements. The Office Specialist 2 will have a
mix of duties that are dependent on the unit being supported. This position reports to the Human Resource Administrator.
Minimum Requirements•
Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included
typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR• An Associate’s degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR•
Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in
Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical
experience.College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Professional Competencies• Excellent organizational skills.•
Strong oral and written communication skills, independent judgment, and
the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.• Ability to set priorities, take initiative, be proactive, and follow-up.• Ability to manage diverse responsibilities and multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications•
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other software programs including
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and HRIS/FIS platforms –
specifically Banner.•Scheduling experience and a high level of proficiency using Microsoft Outlook for both email and calendar coordination.• Experience with event planning and coordination.• Experience coordinating with facilities and maintenance departments.
